What is the white film that formed on my crayons?

This is called blooming. Its exact cause is still unclear but it seems to be linked to a chemical change in the structure of the wax molecules, when heated, that causes the beeswax to expel this substance to the surface. It can be easily removed from the surface and blooming is a good indicator that the beeswax is pure.
